Help keep Music Therapy in Capacity Building, Therapy Supports in the NDIS
Since we found out that music therapy was being removed from the NDIS via a leak, the Australian Music Therapy Association has worked tirelessly to reverse the decision.
AMTA has managed to get a stay on the implementation of the decision to February 1, 2025.
As a result the NDIS has set a new rate for 1:1 sessions at 1/3 of the current rate as a concession, so they can say that music therapy is still funded by the NDIS.
Those with music therapy 'Stated' as a support will be able to receive 1:1 MT and continue until the end of their plan at the current rate. After that, we are unclear on how or if music therapy would be funded.
As the majority of our participants do not have music therapy as a stated support we will be unable to provide the 1:1 service in the new year at this new Social and community access NDIS rate.
Group supports remain at the current rate so our group program on Wednesday evenings will continue for the time being.
AMTA continues to work hard to reinstate music therapy as a therapy support and is meeting Minister Shorten this week.
We MUST continue to act.
